User Reviews for Montana Restaurants« Go back to Boston Travel GuideResearch User Reviews for Montana (1-20 of 109)Old Piney Dell Restaurant
“Good food, but experienced poor wait staff. The management is not group friendly, so we cannot recommend for parties of over 6.”
Borries Family Restaurant
“Great steaks, salads, and spaghetti. Great service and local folks, they even know how to make a southern feel like I was a regular. A friend of mine introduced me to this treat. I travel to Montana for several weeks a summer every year. Three great places to eat that I have found are Spencer & Co. between Kalispell & Whitefish, Chico Hot Springs, Paradise Valley & Borries in Black Eagle (Great Falls). Besides all the other beauty of MT. Everything in Montana is good.”
Mk Steakhouse
“We visit a family place at a nearby lake yearly. One of the highlights is always driving the 35 miles to MK. A big New York steak with all the extras including salad bar and soup for 22 bucks! The steak itself rivals the $40 cut at Ruths Chris ( steak only ). The real log building and well mixed cocktails only improve the package. We drive 500 miles to enjoy it. You should too.”
Cislos
“The food is very great but is kind of a hole in the wall kind of place, it is kept quite clean. It is a nice family run restaurant, good old food.”
El Comedor
“I have yet to have a meal at El Comedor that I thought was worth any amount of money. The margaritas are good - but it's pretty hard to mess that up. I think El Comedor is a locale's place. My husband loves it, but he's from GF and grew up eating there. My advice - don't waste your time or money. The food is terrible and the service isn't much better.”
Benny's Bistro
“The price for what you received was not great. The food really didn't have a lot of flavor, it was more pretty and not tasty. Really expected more since it was supposed to be fine dining. Will not visit again as I really felt that the price for the food was not impressive.”
8 Ball Inn
“Service was not good. We sat there for almost 20 minutes before I had to go get a waitress to order a drink. Menu is pretty much all fried foods, and drinks are over-priced.”
Mint Bar And Cafe The
“I am convinced, the Mint Bar owners, are writing their own reviews. Christmas party 2009. Everyone in our party who had the Prime Rib was sick that night, and the next day. The server looked pretty rough, not friendly, rude, etc. She had no concern for the cramped seating we were forced to endure, ignoring the fact that the dining area was not full. I have to assume the owners have some bizarre standard for seating groups at not only different tables, but mashing groups into small, cramped areas. I could not wait for my meal to be over and leave. The tables were shoved up against the wall making those sitting next to the wall, extremely uncomfortable. Yet, the restaurant was only at about 20% capacity, not busy at all. Most of us were looking forward to eating at this establishment, with all the wonderful radio advertisement. I would never ever return to this place, and am convinced the owners may be writing their own reviews. I have never written a restaurant review, but feel compelled to do so. Horrible!”
Lindeys Prime Steak House
“I've lived in some pretty cut and dry places, and to go to Seeley Lake with a view that will literally, rock your socks off, I came across a restaurant called Lindey's Prime Steakhouse. The view was spectacular as well as the service provided! A person could look out the window and loose themselves in the glistening lake only to be pulled back to reality by a warm. The wines they have to offer are exquisite along with the meal that is cooked to near perfection! At first I was hesitant about their menu because it was a choice between three kinds of steaks, but as I took the first bite into that juicy pound of steak! I wasn't hesitant anymore! It was delicious! After my business meeting that brought me to Seeley Lake, I was going to head back to California but my flight wasn't until 5 O'clock, so I figured I'd pay Lindey's another visit. Only Lindey's became Bay-Burgers! The menu was different and the waitresses even changed looks. I was astonished! They didn't have steak so I ordered the next best thing, a Bay-Burger! Again Lindey's/Bay-Burgers took hold of my taste buds and launched me into heaven. I can't wait until the next time work takes me that way.”
Bistro Enterprises Inc
“My wife and I travel all over the world and eat is nice restaurants as often as we can. The Bistro is a world-class restaurant in little Bozeman Montana. We will be sure to return. Our server was a doll and the food was amazing to say the least.”
Sundance Cafe In Hamilton
“Great food and service. Reasonable prices. Very clean. Nice and comfortable atmosphere, and the best desserts anywhere. Don't miss trying their fantastic Cheese Cakes!”
4 B's Family Restaurant
“About the worst breakfast restaurant experience I've ever had. We ate at the 4B's in Deer Lodge, MT when passing through on October 2, 2009. Two of us had chicken fried steak and eggs, and the other had eggs Benedict. The CFS was like cardboard - it was almost certainly a frozen TV dinner thrown in the microwave and then drowned in some type of creamy yellow chicken broth. My medium eggs were liquid, the toast was slightly burned, and our hash browns were soggy and barely warm. The eggs Benedict was made with lunch meat and covered in what looked like liquid butter. The sever never once asked how our meal was, but when the bill arrived we told her anyway. She said she would mention it to the cook, but there was never any apology or concession for attacking our digestive systems. We paid the bill and fled, leaving our half-eaten breakfasts behind. Never again.”

“The only thing good there is the fresh squeezed lemonade and the ice tea. Everything else is dirty.”

“I agree with the other reviews, the bartenders and other staff is not only unfriendly, but often down right rude. The food is nothing to brag about and the service is slow.”
A&W Restaurant
“Love the A&W Root Beer, of course. Should try the fried cheese curds. The limeades this summer are delicious and cheap $1.00.”
Benny's Bistro
“Food was creative and good. Waitress seemed to want us to leave, though: tried to hand us the bill while asking if we wanted anything else (still eating) and had to ask her to bring dessert tray (could see someone else being shown it) and to please offer coffee. Offered coffee without mentioning that they have espresso, etc. Having been a waitress in fine dining, I can tell you that this is not good for the restaurant nor for the waitress's tips.”
Scotty's Table Inc
“After eating at a few of the other establishments in Missoula and Bozeman I can say that this restaurant is not on the same level as other Montana style fine dining. It actually has food that I want to eat. The flavors are simple and pleasing; the service is casual and not overbearing.”

“Love Ferraro's Italian restaurant. We go for my birthday every year. The lounge area is great setting for an evening business meeting. I have always been pleased with the food. The pasta is made fresh every day & it is one of the few places in Bozeman with a nice patio area for the summer months.”

“I drove from Missoula to meet some friends and take my 1 year old daughter swimming. I came entirely prepared, swimming diapers, baby sunscreen, baby floater. Everything a parent could need to spend some time in the water with her little one. Of course I brought all of her stuff! It didn't even dawn on me that this so-called family establishment wouldn't allow children under 3 to swim! Parents beware! Do not spend money at this dive. They are not in the business of providing good wholesome fun to families. In fact, their pools were full of obnoxious drunk women. Talk about a liability! We had 8 PM dinner reservations so at quarter to we headed into the restaurant. First of all, it took us forever to get our food and not all of the food came out at once. In fact, my daughter's food came out last! Who feeds the children last! Additionally, the restaurant was full of drunk, obnoxious men piled into a separate room but disturbing the rest of the guests nonetheless. At no point that I witnessed were they asked to keep it down. I would never recommend this place to anyone nor would I return if someone paid me. I would never recommend this place to anyone nor would I return if someone paid me.”
Quiznos Subs
“Newly remodeled, great non-smoking section, more food than you can eat and waitress was great. The place looked great.”
Borries Family Restaurant
“Well, I really don't know what dining in GF, MT is all about. This was my first night in town. Let's just say that, If this one of the best GF has to offer, it's going to be a long week! Ravioli was mediocre. Spaghetti was worse. My advice would be to go with the steak. Probably the sirloin was one of the best at our table. I'm not sure what the bread sticks were like years ago, but what came to our table was a poor exclusive!”
Iron Horse Brew Pub, The, Inc
“The bartenders are very rude! The waitresses are nice, but if you just want a drink I wouldn't recommend The Iron Horse.”
Golden Corral
“Cant wait for new store to get built.”
El Comedor
“I do not know what they people giving El Comedor anything but a 10 are talking about. I have eaten there since high school (the 70's) and it is exactly what they promise. If you feel that the tacos are greasy - go somewhere else. I have been away from Great Falls for over 32 years and have even taken tacos with me on an airplane so that my wife could have one of their tacos also. Art Weber (original owner and KFBB weather man) knew what he was doing when he started El Comedor. I still take business clients there so they can be amazed at the food.”
Charlies Bar
“It's a regular local tavern, heavily patronized by locals, and very few others. It's a typical dark, rustic, crowed tavern. Great selection of standard beers and a few local ones, cheap mixed drinks, and a vendor operated kitchen with cheap but edible basic food. The best thing going is the full house of local patrons that always provide lots of laughter and, if you can break in on the guy next to you or a close by table, they sometimes even strike up a conversation with out-of-towner's. Better wear your work clothes or you may not get anyone to talk with you. Owner is a great guy that will even buy you a drink after he sees you a few times.”
The Garage Soup Shack & Mesquite Grill
“Great Place to eat. The staff is excellent. The Food is superb. Other eating establishments should take lessons from this place.”
M R Hummers Inc
“This will have been our 26th year at Big Sky. Over that time we have tried all the restaurants and found M.R.Hummers be the best. For the past many years we have had lunch and dinner there every day during our stay. We always sit and eat and drink at the bar. The owner is always there and is the consummate host. The chef is marvelous and does wonderful things with meats. The prices are very fair and the portions excellent.”
Land Of Magic Dinner Club
“Land of Magic has a funny name, but don't let that steer you away. It is a rustic cabin type restaurant that offers a relish tray, bread, soup and salad, a great steak, and an ice cream dessert. It is the best steakhouse in the Gallatin area. It is worth the drive from Bozeman.”
Tall Pine Lounge Inc
“Awesome employees that are very friendly, humorous and professional. This place is a great sports bar!”
Rattlesnake Trading Co
“This place has AWESOME sandwiches. Its a locally owened gas station/sandwich shop, its a great place to stop by if you're on your way out of town. Try the Philly”
Crystal Bar
“Went to the Crystal in the nineties while an working in Yellowstone Park. Great place - it's a bar! MSU students are the frequenters as well as a night crowd and Yellowstone folks. Old, dirty, has a rooftop, some character. If you want a drink and hang out the Crystal Bar is a good option. Never ate there. Personally, I don't eat at bars because they're bars!”
Mac Kenzie River Pizza
“Great value for the service and food you receive. It was just such a pleasant experience being at Mackenzie. The food was great, my server was awesome.”
Finnegan's
“Awesome breakfast! Friendly people.”
Subway
“Wow this Subway has it all! Nice store great staff. I can't say enough about this store. Easy to get to right off the interstate. Would be back.”
Subway
“We always stop at Subway restaurant but this one in Glendive mt. is the best that we have been to. the store it self is really beautiful with flowers all around the building, landscaping is very nice. The employees are fast and friendly. The store was very busy and the lobby was clean. Keep up the good work. Will be back and refer this Subway.”
Borries Family Restaurant
“Borries is a standout in the declining number of classic Montana dinner clubs. These are the places that are family owned, often multigenerational, and where you will remember the food and setting for a long time. When the menu at Borries says that many of the items are homemade - believe them! The breadsticks, salad dressings, minestrone soup and ravioli are long time favorites for a reason - they are fresh and taste great. I heartily agree with another reviewer who raved about the filets. The fork tender hunks of Montana beef are cooked to perfection and will have you looking forward to ordering them again even before you leave from your current visit. Although family friendly, those without children should opt to eat in the bar side of the operation. You will be surrounded by a range of Western art as well as some classic regular patrons at the bar. Although Great Falls may not be at the top of your list of places to visit, Borries should be.”
McDonald's
“Quality of food has declined over the year. Everything is premade and fries taste bitter from old oil being used.”
Softies
“Although I live in Washington, I have to say that Softies is the best ice cream place I have ever been to. My mother grew up in Montana and every time we go there it is a tradition to go to Softies. Without a trip to Softies, our vacation would be incomplete. I am excited to take a trip to Montana tomorrow and have no doubt that I will go to Softies, to me it is a place of fond family memories.”

“Our service was excellent. We were seated promptly and had water and menus within a minute. Our waitress was back with our drinks before we had a chance to make our selections. We asked for a couple of minutes and she was back in a couple of minutes! The restaurant is newly remodeled, so everything was very clean. We had our choice of a table or booth. The portion size was plenteous--no room for dessert.”

“Outstanding food made from very high quality ingredients. I don't recommend the sweet and sour, but everything else is as good as it gets!”

“Disaster.”

“This place is awesome because you get good food for a good value. Try the escargot! it's my favorite because of the cheese.”
Finnegan's
“Anyone who is staying or passing by should stop there for breakfast, lunch or supper. They have the best strawberry pancakes with whipped cream.”
Colombos Pizza & Pasta
“It's a great family owned and run place. Real pizza, not the crap you get at the chain places, and very excellent service. You order at the counter and they find you to give you your food, no calling out names. Great for more casual setting and parties, but great food and a good selection as well.”
Mint Bar And Cafe The
“The place for melt in your mouth steaks, great martinis, and local color. We loved the place. We stumbled in on the advice of some locals who swore by the food and left as dedicated Mint freaks.”
Borries Family Restaurant
“Was there in 2003 on our way for a week in Glacier Nat'l Park. Basically a Supper Club like you'd see in Wisconsin or Minnesota. We both had the filet mignon as that's what the guidebook recommended was the best item on the menu. My mother ordered a Queen size & I ordered the King. My King was actually 2 Queens! Fork tender. My mother said the breadsticks were to die for! I've never found breadsticks something to rave about but she asked our waitress she would like to buy 20 to go & they gave them to her for free. Yu would not be out of place wearing jeans & a flannel shirt. She sends me emails every 6 months or so asking when we're going back. Not so much to Glacier, but to Borries! I live 30 minutes from Downtown Chicago & she still dreams about a filet & breadsticks at Borries. Enough said. I've been to 60+ destinations in the last 20 years & did extensive research prior to. All the at'l Parks, Mexico, Hawaii & a dozen Caribbean Islands.”
4 B's Family Restaurant
“After trying to find any type of restaurant after NINE, we came across 4B's, went inside the dated restaurant and followed the direction to seat ourselves. We then waited several minutes while multiple employees walked past us without giving us a water or menus. After ordering, we waited more than 25 minutes for a Chicken Fried Steak meal and Chicken Fingers, the mechanic obviously moonlighting as a short order cook could not manage the three tables that were in the restaurant at the time. The waitress walked past our food while it sat under the "warmer" for 5 minutes before bringing it to our table. The chicken fried steak was black with white gravy with no spices anywhere to be found on the plate. The chicken fingers and French fries were barely better than that of Wendy's, which we learned after leaving, was actually still open and would have been the more appetizing choice. I feel I've had better food served to me in third world countries than right here in the heartland of America. I would never return to 4B's or Miles City. Bad service and taste all around.”
Burger Bob's Inc
“Good food, service is average, atmosphere OK, it's a burger joint, what do you expect? Would recommend for casual dining, waffle fries are awesome.”
Red Bird
“The Red Bird is hands down the best fine dining in the entire state of Montana. It is not fast food/stand as this travel guide says. It is chill/romantic fine dining with incredible service and no snobbiness. They also have one of the best selections of wine and foreign beers. Their new wine bar is something else. A must see if you've never been.”
2 of 2 people found this review helpful. Iron Horse Brew Pub, The, Inc
“I was not impressed with the Iron Horse at all it took forever to get waited on and the food was not worth the wait. In addition the bartender was very rude to us.”
