• The big breakfast included, the calm.
• The hot tub out of order, no recycling facilities.

• The room was very comfortable and nice, especially for the price we paid. Also in a very convenient location.
• Non-managerial desk employees were fairly stand offish and not very helpful.

“The managers and breakfast staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was very well equipped for the price we paid and it was in such an extremely convenient location. We checked in early and came back later to find no parking available near our door. The desk help told my sister "good luck" and that there was no assigned parking. The manager was already outside and leaving for the night, and he walked over to tell us where else we could park. We assume he was the manager, because he was very professional and by far the most helpful, but he was a middle-eastern man in a lovely blue suit.”

• Price, location, bed, bar and restaurant on site.
• No hangers in the closets, no lotion, minimal toiletries, and light bulbs burned out. Didn't know we would have to pay $18 to park overnight.

• Jacuzzi tub in bathroom was wonderful but it could have been cleaner.
• The bathroom was a little run down looking. Not shiny clean.

“The room was large and pleasant. Needed updates for wall paper. Old fashion looking but clean. Bathroom could use a little more elbow grease when cleaning.”

• It was close to the mall.
• The furniture in the room was disgusting and dirty and the bed was very uncomfortable.

“There is construction going on and it was difficult to figure out where to park and where to check in. They need more/ better signs telling guests. There were two chairs and an Ottoman in the room that were covered in stains and we didn't even put our jackets on them. They need to be thrown out and replaced. The room is too dark and the only mirror that is not in the bathroom is a closet door where their is no light so I could not get ready while my husband was in the bathroom. The bed was also in need of replacement.”

• Clean rooms, and convenient location.
• Small beds (full instead of queen), lots of noise from other rooms, loud heating system.

“Nice hotel overall, and would stay there again. Room was very clean, but was disappointed to see full-sized beds instead of queen. Needed to keep the fan on to cover the noise from other rooms, but the fan was very loud (not a relaxing background noise for sleeping). Wish they had a complimentary continental breakfast, but there's a Dunkin Donuts across the street.”

• First room was dirty. One that we moved to was not as dirty, but still unclean.

“Stayed many times prior and room was excellent. Clean and comfy. This stay we were surprised at how run down the rooms seemed. The first room had a dirty soap dish, thick dust on table legs and hair on the floor. The second room they moved us to had hair in the bathroom and lots of dust on headboard. Mirror in bath was not clean in either room. The buffet breakfast was not as good as usual as well. We waited for a server and then she charged us the wrong amount. It was very unsatisfactory. Will stay at the Hampton next time.”

• Very clean and spacious rooms.
• Noise from highway was very loud. Beds were not comfortable.

“Staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were large and nicely decorated and everything was clean, but the hotel is definitely older. Request a room on the opposite side of the hotel from the highway, since the road noise is quite loud. Beds are okay, but small and not the most comfortable.”

• They had a refrigerator and microwave in the room.
• Heat was not functional upon arrival. cream for the coffee in the room was spoiled. Hot tub was not functional. Pool was dirty.

“Convenient location. hotel pool & hot tub either not functional or dirty. side entrance door was broken. The room had a refrigerator and microwave and seemed nice. The cream for the morning coffee in the room was spoiled. Overall, it was OK. Overall, it felt old and not well cared for. basically,a deal is only a deal when you feel like you get something below market value. I did not feel cheated.”

• The staff was very responsive and helpful.
• Lack of amenities, no free continental breakfast, drinks, etc.

“Excellent hotel, very conveniently located to airport and mall. Free shuttle service to the airport. A hotel of this caliber should have the free breakfast that others do. A bottle of water was on the desk at a replacement cost of $2.50. Very difficult to use the television. Very old television set.”

“ Don't stay here – with the room charge and then charging us $20 for another bed in the room, the sheets didn't fit the bed and I'm not sure the last time the bathroom was cleaned - I had to shower with a towel on the bottom of the tub. The English muffins were stale. ”

• The bathroom was minuscule, there was peeling wallpaper in the hall, the doors were paper thin thereby more noisy than necessary.

• Unique design - Round towers. All non-smoking.
• It is tired, but they are working on it. Stayed one night in a room that was converted from smoking - needs more work.

“Nice hotel, but in need of some TLC, which they are in the progress of doing. Work on the outside and inside is underway. They converted a floor from smoking to non-smoking several months ago, but it is scheduled for a needed reno to remove all fabrics to get that lingering smell out. It was OK, but the 2nd time we stayed there we were in a better room that had not been smoking.”

“I would not recommend this hotel. I did stay here the beginning of last year and the experience was good. This time there was a problem with a complaint logged and absolutely no response. The complaint was totally justified, verified, documented and totally ignored by the general manager.”

• The rooms were decent, clean, affordable. No frills, but very nice for a one night stay.
• The food in the restaurant at the hotel - O'Brien's or something - wasn't very good. Bland/dry. There was one waitress on a Friday night - very slow.

“ The rooms are nice enough. Only two stories, easy access to any room. Pet friendly was a plus for us. Pleasant staff. Looked like a nice indoor pool, but we didn't use it. Clean, reasonably priced, but not really a deal. Eat across the street because the food here was pretty bad.
”

• Well appointed rooms.
• The doors in the room slam easily unless you physically hold them. Very noisy and irritating. Shuttle is too restrictive.

“ Is was a good experience for our group, but many were disturbed by the noisy doors that slam ea. time. The shuttle is far too restrictive to only going to the airport. The distance to the old port is shorter, but this hotel offers only a $2 coupon for a Taxi. We called the taxi company many many times before they finally answered. Then the next wait began. Other guests were waiting outside for a taxi as well. Guests in this location go to dinner in the old port not at the airport! We barely made it for our scheduled reservation time and vowed to make note of this shortfall.

• Spacious, clean room and great views of the city.

“Great old style city hotel with great views of Portland. Nice top floor lounge with comfortable seating. Our room was huge with two windows overlooking the city and water. Great old style elevators and staff very friendly and helpful. Good location for walking into arts and Old Port areas. Room and common areas very clean and well taken care of. Would stay there again.”

• Location.
• I returned to my room at 5 PM and the room had not been cleaned. The front desk was barely helpful.

“I would not stay there again. The lobby is weirdly decorated, the room windows don't open and some of the furniture in the room was a bit beaten-up.”

• Within walking distance of old port exchange on waterfront.
• Shabby.

“The last time I stayed in the Eastland was the night before I joined the Navy in 1976. It has not changed. The exterior area of the hotel has more bums than back then, The pathways around the hotel i.e to garage are shoddy and there seems to be no real effort to bring the hotel to the standard one would expect for downtown Portland, Maine. I selected this hotel to broaden my choice from the airport area. I will not make that choice again.”
